Position
Vice President of Research and Development

Education
An undergraduate degree in Computer Science or Engineering is required. A Masters degree is preferred.

Reporting Structure
This position will report to the CEO.

Opportunity
The Vice President of R & D will develop and direct our client’s software development function.

Experience
The successful candidate will have strong leadership skills and an established track record of building and growing a software development team, and the proven ability to bring products to market.

  • Demonstrated success in developing and managing large-scale, complex software applications, including one or more years' experience developing high-volume web-based or e-commerce applications.

  • A proven Project Manager who has a keen understanding of software development processes, resource and capacity planning experience, forecasting and budgeting experience with large-scale development projects, and an understanding of work breakdown structures and techniques.

  • Requires a collaborative work style with strong desire to work in dynamic, fast-paced environment that requires flexibility and ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Proven track record of building and retaining effective relationships with business development staff, ensuring customer focus within project teams, and aligning their areas' work around business needs.

  • Ability to translate technical needs into business specifications, manage project plans, and determine realistic project schedules.

 Duties and Responsibilities
The role involves providing technical direction to lead and manage the development,  testing, and documentation of new and existing products.  Development projects have a rapid development cycle to support aggressive rolling release schedules, require significant integration and customization ability, and a complex change management process. This entails formulating the long-term objectives and overseeing the engineering budget and development schedules. Also, responsible for the standards and practices used by the development staff, managing and driving the morale of the R & D organization, and, ultimately, ensuring the success of the company by delivering state-of-the-art products that meet our client’s customers’ high expectations. 

  • Partner with Chief Executive Officer to implement leading-edge technologies in a disciplined, organized systems development model.

  • Develop and implement product development processes to meet timelines and budgets, and ensure appropriate levels of coordination and communication across the organization.

  • Develop a deep understanding of functional requirements and provide a critical role in managing product releases by utilizing proven software development processes to determine scope, resources, and implementation timeframes.

  • Assist in the definition and communication of product features while driving the technical specification process.

  • Participate in sizing and estimating the product releases, as well as product analysis and design.

  • Act as the primary interface between development and sales/marketing to help manage client expectations.

  • Will be charged with building effective teams, and recruiting and retaining top talent.
