Position Director, Software Development
Education M.S. in Computer Science or equivalent experience. A degree in Biomedical Engineering, Biophysics, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry or experience in a biological field desirable.
Reporting Structure The position reports to the Vice President of Software Development
Requirements The qualified candidate will have a minimum of 7 to 10 years of experience in commercial software development, including a wide variety of technical contributions across many product development projects. This must include 3 years in scientific, engineering or technical software, 7 to 10 years hands-on programming experience with expertise in C or C++ and a minimum of 1 year hands-on programming experience with expertise in Java. In addition, a minimum of 3 years experience managing scientific, engineering, or technical software development teams is required.The candidate will possess a strong desire to learn and implement new technologies. He/She must be familiar with numerical analysis platforms and computer simulation techniques used for studying complex multidimensional processes. Previous experience will include expertise with object-oriented design, object-oriented programming, and component-based development. Informatics and medical/biology experience is a strong plus. A passion for graphics and user interfaces is essential.A deep understanding of XML, ASP software and Internet infrastructure is highly desirable. The ideal candidate will have a passion for creating break-through software products that define new markets. He/She must have led a team that has built and deployed scientific applications in a Web, Intranet, and packaged solution environment.He/She will be familiar with all aspects of commercial software development, including product planning, software development, quality assurance, technical documentation, and product release is required. The ideal candidate will demonstrate sound business judgment, be able to manage a budget and work on simultaneous projects. He/She will have the ability to simultaneously manage people and work on projects. This candidate must display an ability to work effectively in a dynamic scientific environment and have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Responsibilities The ideal person will be a talented software architect, manager and developer who will lead all development efforts in the product cycle. He/she will be a hands-on contributor to the development efforts as well as hiring, training and managing a fast-growing team of software development professionals.
